- Playing Golf – What Is The Big Attraction? By:-Harwood E
If you know someone who plays golf regularly you will no doubt have been involved in a conversation with them at some point about how wonderful the game is, as anyone who plays often will tell you it is one of those sports that gets under your skin and nibbles away at your insides, once you have started playing you are hooked for life. Golf is a sport that appears so simple to anyone that has never played before that it is difficult to see what the appeal is. It is not until you have picked up an iron in anger and tried to connect the club end with a little white ball and propel it as far as you can in a straight line, avoiding bunkers, the rough and of course trees towards a little cup in the ground that you can see where the difficulty comes in. Practically speaking golf should not be difficult, it simply is a case of swinging the club in an arc from behind you towards the ball, what could possibly be difficult about that? And therein lays the difficulty, human involvement, so why do people get so hooked on golf?

For anyone who is serious about the sport that they play there are a multitude of things that can go towards you either having a fantastic game or event or an awful game. The beauty of amateur sport is that when you wake up in the morning you never know which way the sporting day is going to turn, will it be one of those fantastic days when everything goes to plan and you can do no wrong or will it be one of those gut wrenching horrendous days when you wonder whether you should have made the effort to get out of bed in the first place and other people think that it is probably the first time that you have played. If you are a sportsman you will understand both of those feelings. Of course we can train to make our performances better but as an amateur there is only so far that practice will take us for rest we have to rely on the gods. So what can we do to try to ensure that we get the maximum performance out of our game more often than not?
