Most SEO linking plans involve the same standard techniques: business blogging, article marketing, directory listings, classified ads, and social networking. These tactics are standard for a reason -- they get results. But in our volatile world of online marketing, it sometimes pays to mix up your SEO plan. Let's take a look at three underutilized tactics for off page SEO linking. 1. Press Releases Extra, extra! Implementing press releases is a great way to publicize your brand using not only words but also links, pictures and videos. Modern press release sites support media like these, allowing your press releases to afford both branding and SEO linking opportunities. Aside from their useful content, press releases are also distributed extensively throughout the internet. A single press release title can appear hundreds or even thousands of times in RSS feeds of major news sites, showing up on both web searches and through services like Google News and Bing News. For many businesses, launching a press release with a keyword-rich title can be a shortcut to Google's front page. 2. Video Marketing Ever notice how videos appear before links on search results? Video marketing allows you to capitalize on those top spots. It can work one of two ways: Social Video Marketing: This kind of video marketing involves social sites, most notably Youtube -- the third most popular site on the internet. When you place a video on Youtube, it is automatically indexed by Google, allowing it to show up on search results. You can also earn recognition on both Youtube and Google by working with an established account and communicating with users to increase your favorites and subscribers. The downside? When users click on your Youtube video in Google search results, it will take them to that video's Youtube page, not your website. Thus, this method is more useful for branding than hardcore SEO. Video SEO: Now we're talking. Video SEO involves videos hosted directly on your website, so that when users click on them, they go to you! To optimize your videos for search engines, give each video a unique page on your website, and match the page's meta title to that of the video. You can also ad a meta description to your video, in addition to keyword-rich subtitles for the best SEO. 3. Viral Marketing Just like real viruses, viral marketing campaigns spread through the population, "infecting" crowds exponentially with a brand, promotion, or idea. The best part? If you create a viral campaign, other people will spread it for you. It's hard to tell what kind of material will go viral, so try creating something that, if you saw it, you would want to sent to a friend. This could be a fake Twitter account, a hilarious video, a spinoff website, a catchy song, or anything else that can easily be shared. And, for the best SEO linking, be sure to add keywords!
