Jewellery is a Brilliant Bridesmaid's Gift

An increasing number of people are investing in designer jewellery for their bridesmaids, according to Retail Jeweller.

The publication reported that designer jewellery will not suffice as just a present for the bride anymore as more people are presenting their bridesmaids with the gift as way of thanks or as part of their wedding day outfit.

Rebecca Doyle, owner of Chez Bec, told Retail Jeweller that wedding organisers should ensure that the bridesmaids are not allergic to any particular metals and also check whether they all have pierced ears.

It is also important to remember that the designer jewellery bought for the bridesmaid is likely to be worn after the big day so it should ideally suit them and match their personality.

Roger Latham, sales director for Lola Rose, said that there are some designer jewellery themes which will always be en vogue for that special day.

He the publication: "Flowers and hearts are wedding classics and always will be. Done in bursts of bright colour, these give flashes of standout yet classic wedding chic."

The pearl is enjoying a renaissance as a wedding day gift, claims Erica Illingworth, founder of children's jewellery brand Molly Brown.

She told the publication: "We have sold hundreds of them to brides to be wishing to thank bridesmaids and flower girls on their special day. Pearls have become a major part of our girls' collection.

"The great thing about pearls, particularly freshwater pearls, is that they can be very contemporary in their look and in designs and they still maintain that 'special keepsake' quality."

Yasmin Moss, creative director of Kit Heath, which sells both adult and children's jewellery, also said that pearls are growing in popularity.

She told Retail Jeweller: "Pearls are eternally popular and we are particularly seeing a trend towards small and uniquely designed silver and pearl pieces."

Wedding day presents such as designer jewellery and children's jewellery should be presented in an attractive way in order to achieve the maximum impact.

Sophie Barrett, Links of London spokeswoman, told the publication: "Any bridesmaid would be delighted to receive a beautifully packaged gift.

"You cannot underestimate the effect of untying an exquisite parcel and opening up a ribbon-tied box to find a memento of the day."

The Guardian recently reported that India accounted for a quarter of all the gold used in jewellery last year, which was mainly a result of weddings and religious ceremonies.
