There is a war raging on at this very moment. A colossal digital conflict fought on a virtual plane with factions big and small, countless entities, and troops battling each other for top recognition and the chance to 'be seen.' The internet is best described as that virtual battleground. It is an exhilarating place, one that could bring glory and power while at the same time, could ensure downfall; a fade into obscurity. To cement your website at the top of the 'must see' list, your supply of strategy, your cache of weaponry, must be up-to-date. Your website must have the necessary firepower and defence to be considered as a top opponent, a worthy adversary to your competitors and a major force in the war for visibility and significance. One of the most challenging concepts in today's internet business world, is the ability to be able to maintain a new and thrilling website. Take a minute, step back and view your website as if through the eyes of an individual in your ideal target market. Can you comfortably say that your content has the relevance to promote longer browsing? Can you honestly say that your site reads like a great book, adventurous, comic, dramatic or all of the above? Can you truthfully say that your website navigates like a ship on calm seas; destinations come easy, nothing gets in the way? If not, then your site may just need a nip and a tuck. Like any good general, it is essential you take stock of the weapons available to you. Plan your strategy accordingly so that your site becomes a well-oiled machine, a force to be reckoned with. Keep some of these tactics in mind when redesigning: Be careful of too much flash - It looks great and seems like fun, great for breaking monotony and adding spice to a site otherwise saturated with droning, long-winded body copy. But, while you smile and cheer and wait for the hits to roll in, your victory assured, your site automatically drops in ranking as search engines struggle to read the flash peppering its pages. A devastation sure to result in casualties. Slow content loading - Perhaps the main gunner in the online firing squad. Nothing guarantees site abandonment like content navigation slower than a molasses flood. Keep your content to a byte minimum and keep visitors prowling the alleys and grooves of your links. Flick the switch, light up your content - When visitors come calling, make sure they don't wander around in the dark. Your content should be arranged so that all important functions can be seen and all features bearing significance can be identified. Guide your visitor through your site, pointing out areas of interest and get them safely to the ultimate destination that is your intention. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) - There is an omnipotent force cruising the internet. It prowls and stalks, watching and searching, an all-powerful colossal entity, picking words and content and categorically arranging all to fit in what ultimately determines website relevance and visibility. If your website contains content void of relevance in your particular field, you might as well concede defeat. Wave the white flag, so to speak. Include keywords to your important content and spread them evenly through copy. In online battle, your main goal is to stay clearly on the radar. Allow the entity of SEO to place its gaze squarely on you and automatically command a presence. And so, the battle rages on. Keep your content up to date and relevant and the day will be yours. Keep the weapons in your arsenal at the ready and you'll soon find yourself climbing the online ranks to victory, glory and acclaim.
