Fleas Jump Over Mountains!

It is horrible to think of this phenomenon, but fleas can actually jump up to one hundred and thirty times their height. In human terms, that means an average man could jump up more than seven hundred feet from a standing start! Because they can do this, it is very hard to contain them anywhere so they get into carpets, in cracks and crevices, and just about anywhere where they will fit.

The flea is a blood sucking insect of course, and it will always live where there is a ready supply of this material. It really does not differentiate between animals and humans since we are just a source of protein to this little jumper.

The female flea has to suck blood to produce eggs. When she wants to produce, she will suck up to thirty times her own body weight in blood every single day, and in return she produces six times her body weight in baby food to feed her offspring.

Of all the fleas, the cat flea is the one that jumps the highest. One was recorded at thirty-four inches off the ground. This amazing force means that it is possibly the strongest animal on earth. If this was an airline pilot he would have to endure a G force of 200! One other odd fact about the cat flea is that although it differs from the dog flea, a cat flea can survive on a mutt too but the dog flea does not return the favor.

Following on behind the flea enters the common house fly. These pests actually taste food with their feet and throw up on their food first to start it digesting before it sucks it back in. When it mates, this little pest can produce like no other thing on earth. In the course of five months, a breeding pair, if all the descendants live that long, will number 191,000,000,000,000,000,000 if they all produce as they are going along.

Unlike the other bugs, house flies will just come in through open doors and windows attracted by the smell of food. Therefore, to make sure that they are kept at bay, it is a good idea to put screens on all openings. Likewise, any garbage pales should be kept covered and food stored away from areas where flies can get their dirty little feet on it.

One other strange fact about flies, or the mayfly to be exact, is that it takes up to three years to hatch from its egg. Once hatched, the lifespan of this pest is just six hours. This seems like an awful lot of waiting for a brief fling!

Finally, there is nothing worse than having a home which is full of annoying bugs and flying things. Although we all try to keep the bug spray handy, sometimes it needs something a little extra to cut down on the whole array of bugs which literally keep bugging us.

Professional companies are there to advice and cure most of our problems and since they know how to handle the dangerous chemicals, it may be better to leave the job to them!
