6 of the Best Accessories for Men

By : Eddie Prentice

Most people, when they hear the word "accessory" think of women. This is a mistake. There are a ton of accessories for men and, given that their outfits are generally more plain, are even more important to their look. From bags, to watches, to cufflinks, "Clothes may make the man, but accessories make the men fabulous." Carson Kressley (Queer Eye).

1.Sunglasses

From Dior to Ray Ban's men around the world are taking their sunglasses very seriously. With prices ranging upwards of £120 sunglasses are the perfect way for men to splash out on something a little extra for their outfits.

2.Belts

A belt is an essential part of a man's outfit. While some men wear belts for the sole purpose of holding up their trousers, others express their fashion tastes through this simple piece of leather, or suede, or webbing. Braces have also made a major comeback in the past year or two. Hats off to those brave men who never went without them, your fashion snaps have now been commended.

3.The man bag

This trend emerged in fashion forward cities a few years back (in my opinion all thanks to Joey Tribbiani from 'Friends'). Nowadays there are millions of men all over the world walking around with shoulder bags, making it a multi-billion pound industry.

4.Pocket watches

Pocket watches were developed in the sixteenth century and were the most popular style of watch until after the First World War when wrist watches came out on the market. Although pocket watches aren't commonly worn today they remain a very stylish accessory. They are often seen on older men who clearly have a preference for the old-school look, also inclusive of bow ties and braces.

5.Cufflinks

Like belts, cufflinks are an essential part of a man's outfit, and therefore an accessory men often like to splash out on. It is a chance to show of your creativity and sense of fashion adventure. Some men will go for musical notes or maybe initial cufflinks, while others might enjoy something a bit more glamorous, like pink diamonds or pearls.

6.Pocket squares

Pocket squares can often be overlooked as a fashion accessory for men. Pocket squares are the perfect accessory to add an element of style and class to an otherwise plain suit. Solid coloured pocket squares are a good place to start if you are new to the accessory. They go with everything and are therefore easy to match. Once you become a veteran of the pocket square, patterns and high end designs are protocol to any formal outfit.
