It was a weekend well earned. There had been immense work pressure throughout the week and we had toiled hard. However, some of us were not happy. It was Saturday morning, and here we were back at the office. It was moving day and the chosen few gathered together with glum looks. Even though we had hired a professional moving company, we were anticipating a tough day ahead. We had however done some homework. Thank goodness management had decided to involve a relocation consultant and a professional moving company). The decision to shift had been taken about a month back. The decision was propelled by the availability of a very decent and rather economical office space in upmarket town. Owing to the time constraints in planning, our firm had engaged the services of a well known relocation consultant. A relocation consultant is a person who provides assistance with moves. The planning has started with renovation of the new office. Ours being an IT firm, data and communication cable set up was installed on a war footing. Even one day lost due to communication issue would literally ruin us. The relocation consultant provided advisory services on this account. Vendors were selected on the basis of competitive quote. The phased out schedule for office renovation was made. The relocation consultant assisted in the entire planning. The new office space was almost renovated and ready for moving in. The consultant had arranged for a professional moving company. Three quotes were obtained and the best one selected for the job. The selected firm was licensed, bonded and insured. Also, the Better Business Bureau rating was very good. It was a full-service mover which means the mover would uninstall, pack, relocate, unpack and reinstall at the new office. The professional moving company had formulated a moving check-list and planning guide. Some packing had started almost a week before. Important records, files and documents were packed into carts. The moving company personnel were on time as scheduled. The systems room furniture was dismantled properly. Then they started with the packing of the computer and other lan room accessories. The sensitive stuff was packed with anti-static bubble wrap. Computer zip-lock bags were used and labeled to avoid unloading chaos. Commercial grade boxes were used to store sensitive lan equipments. The packed boxes were double taped and labeled appropriately. The kitchen stuff such as the refrigerators and freezers were suitably loaded onto the mobile crates. They were unplugged the night before to defrost suitably. All of this was a result of the pre-move advisory services of the moving company. They had sent over their representative the day before to supervise the pre-move work. The truck was filled in with the packed things for relocation. We were on our way. On reaching the new office site, all the packed things ware again unpacked by the personnel. They started with the work of installation of the office fixtures. The lan room was again set up and fully functional. In a few hours, the office was ready for work to start. We heaved a sigh of relief. The entire exercise was done in such a professional manner that we were only mere bystanders. We were now excited with the prospect of working in a new office. Suddenly, the reality set in as we noticed that we were standing in a fully functioning office. This was after only a few hours of being down. Our faces were smiling now. Thank goodness for the services of a professional mover and relocation specialist.
