When you need good, quality live-in care for yourself or a family member, you want someone you can trust and depend on. To ensure that this happens there are three questions you need to ask when looking for quality care in the UK. One of those questions is: What is the level of rating that this agency has from the CQC? CQC means Care Quality Commission, which is a government agency; a government agency that is responsible for inspecting and regulating all domiciliary care providers.. The next question you need to ask is, Does the care agency limit the number of careers responsible for individual clients? And the third question to ask is, Does the agency employ its care givers directly, or are they all self-employed? Consideration also needs to be given to the kind of needs that the elderly patient has such as: needing help with bathing, moving around, doctor and other appointments, meals and medication. Such needs need to be compared to the caregiver that is chosen. In other words, the caregiver should have something in common with the patient. This will help to ensure that a good relationship is formed. In addition, it is important to give consideration to the person who will live in and care for your loved one. This person should be given a private room in your home and be able to have all their meals in your home. It will help the patient if they could share their meal with the live-in caregiver. Keep in mind that this person will be in your home 24/7 and it is also important to ensure that he or she has some private time to themselves. For quality live-in care you also want to be kept informed from the Care Manager on how the live-in caregiver is doing and to know that the in-care home giver is in close contact with a private duty nurse to ensure that any changes in the patients' needs are recorded and then handled appropriately. You also want an in-care health person to be trained, experienced and qualified. This person should also be bonded. In the UK there is what is known as rotational live-in care where those who have high dependency needs can receive the help and special services they need such as companionship, help with bathing and wheelchair needs. This kind of care will help them to remain in their own homes. And, monitoring of quality care, the evaluation of cost, personal assessment and risk assessment are also contained in the UK care package.
