Solutions for Sinusitis Right in Your Kitchen

Who would ever suspect that natural sinusitis remedies await you right in your kitchen cupboards?

Your grandma, no, it's probably even your great grandma knew all about these remedies, but somehow all of that wisdom got lost in this era of modern medicine.

But our ancestors had a lot of great wisdom. So let's take a look at what they used right from their kitchen cupboards for natural sinusitis remedies.

Have you ever heard of a poultice?

It's kind of like a hot pack that you place over something injured or congested. But instead of using a hot water bottle, you mash up some food or herb, wrap it in a cloth and apply it over the affected area.

Dr. H. C. A. Vogel, the Nature Doctor recommends an onion poultice for sinus infections. Simply chop one onion into fine pieces, wrap them in two pieces of cloth and put them around the neck. Certainly you know not to choke yourself!

You most likely will be sleeping by yourself. Sounds potent. And it is. The germs can't stand the onions any more than you can.

Or how about this "cocktail"

2 cups tomato juice 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, crushed 2 tablespoons lemon juice Hot sauce to taste (the more you can include, the more effective the remedy)

Mix and heat all the ingredients in a pan over the stove. Sip this slowly. Warm it up again whenever it cools off. In this way you can get the full beneficial effects of the steam. Don't be afraid to inhale the steam getting it through your sinuses and into your lungs.

Try drinking as much of this cocktail as you possibly can stand . . .er . . . stand.

And another grandma remedy for swelling around your sinuses - the cold pack:

Place 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts and 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda with 2 cups of very cold water.

Place a clean cloth in this solution, wring it out. Then place it over your sinuses. Don't freeze your skin, but let the cold pack stay over your sinuses as long as possible. Plunge the cloth in the cold water whenever it feels warm and then place it on your sinus area again.

These cold packs help alleviate a stuffy nose and work especially well with sinusitis associated with a cold.

On the other hand, sinusitis may respond better to the application of heat which improves circulation to the area.

Heat can be applied as a hot pack using a hot water bottle or even the rice-filled cloth wraps that you heat in the microwave.

Does your cupboard also contain ingredients for nose drops?

Garlic nose drops Crush one clove of garlic and mix it well in one quarter-cup of water. With an eyedropper place 10 drops of the solution in each nostril for three days. The allicin in garlic with its antibacterial effects can help deter infections. Of course, you will seek appropriate medical help if you have a sinus infection.

So there you have it. Start the search for these natural sinusitis remedies in your kitchen.
