Search engines will reward you if you give them what they want. If you are doing article marketing giving a search engine what it wants starts with targeting the right keyword phrases. You can make a lot of money with your article if you do a few things correctly as it pertains to keywords. The first thing you need to do is build a keyword list around a targeted keyword phrase. Google offers an excellent free tool to help you build a keyword list. If you have a website you probably have your targeted keyword phrases in the meta tags. This is a good place to find your primary keyword phrase and build your list. When you are considering keywords you will be looking at how you place them in the articles and the density you are using them with. Search engines look at these two particular things when they spider any web page. You do not have to overuse keyword phrases from writing articles. As a matter of fact this is considered spamming will do you more harm than good. Generally including your keyword phrase in the title, and in the opening and closing paragraphs is adequate. You then want to use variations of it throughout the body of your article as it sounds natural. Keyword stuffing is a bad habit to get into. You can always tell a poorly written article that is based around keyword stuffing. Stuffing keywords is a good way to get penalized by the search engines and can affect your rankings for the article you are writing. Keyword density is described as how many times the key word is placed in the article. For example if you write a 400 word article and include the primary keyword phrase 4 times you would have a keyword density of 1%. In the old days of writing articles the author shot for a keyword density of 5%. This meant that the keyword phrase was being used 20 times in a 400 word article. You can probably realize how ridiculous that sounds to the reader. When it comes to making money hyperlinking your keyword phrase in your resource box is extremely important. The more times they keyword phrase is hyperlinked in multiples articles the better chance you have of ranking highly for that targeted keyword phrase. When starting a new Internet business initially you will target longer keyword phrases. This might be phrases of three or more keywords in it. The benefit of doing this is there is less competition for these longer keyword phrases. Therefore when you hyperlink them in your resource box you stand a better chance of ranking higher on a search engine for them. Over time you can begin to target the more competitive phrases. The only difference between ranking on page 1 of Google for a highly competitive phrase and not ranking for it is the number of backlinks you have for that hyperlinked phrase. As you see the keywords are important to making money with articles. Targeting the right phrases when writing the article, and setting your webpages up for search engines makes a big difference.
