Vacuum Packaging Helps Save Both Money And Space

Vacuum packaging is one of the most cost-effective and time-saving methods for preserving foods and perishable goods, and keeping them fresh longer. It saves both money and space and helps streamline meal preparation. Once sealed and stored in a freezer, raw or prepared foods retain their flavor, consistency and overall quality for a long period. Vacuum sealers are also a handy way to store dry products such as rice, nuts or coffee, and can be stacked in a cupboard, drawer or pantry for convenience.

Vacuum packaging helps consumers save money in a number of ways:

* It allows people to buy foods in bulk, sealing and storing most of it for later use.

* Families can make larger meals with the intention of preserving the unused portions, ultimately saving money and time spent cooking.

* Leftovers needn't be thrown away, and they don't go to waste sitting in the refrigerator.

Bulk purchases are almost always more cost-effective than buying smaller amounts. In terms of time saved, having precooked meals conveniently stored in the freezer greatly reduces the number of steps it takes to get a meal on the table after a long day. Home gardeners also benefit from vacuum sealing, allowing them to preserve fresh produce before it spoils. Simply blanch, seal and freeze, and homegrown produce can be enjoyed even in the dead of winter. Some fruits, such as berries and melons, don't even require blanching before bagging, making it even more convenient. Because vacuum sealers draw the air out of storage bags, the packages also require less space for storage, especially when compared to the amount of space that other storage containers occupy.

Retort pouches are another method of vacuum packaging that are used commercially to keep food fresh without the need for freezing. Portable and effective, they are used by the military, the space program, and commercial food processors to prevent spoilage by preserving precooked foods in an airtight package. Among other foods, tuna fish, soups and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) utilize retort packaging. Perfect for camping, backpacking or home use, a retort pouch can be dropped into boiling water or emptied into a pan or microwave-safe dish for reheating. You can also eat some of these foods right out of the bag as a handy snack anytime.

In addition to freshly-made meals, fruits and vegetables, other sealable foods include raw meat, nuts, coffee and flour, as well as liquid or semi-solid foods like soups and sauces. Vacuum sealing not only preserves the freshness of food and other consumables, it also saves money and space while reducing the time spent preparing meals at a later date.
