6 Great Things to Do in Surrey

By : Eddie Prentice

This South East English County is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and is home to some of the most important historical sites. Here are six reasons to go.

1.Hampton Court Palace:

Hampton Court Palace is the oldest Tudor palace in England. Set in magnificent gardens, it was one of Henry VIII's favourite places. While some of the property has been refurbished, much of it remains in its original state, including the kitchens, tennis courts, maze, and both state and King's apartments. Costume guided tours are a fun and educational way to visit this historical site.

2.RHS Wisley Gardens

Is there anything more beautiful then tulips in the Spring? What about daffodils, rhododendrons, and azaleas? And before the autumn shrubbery starts to spurt, there are a few months to enjoy roses, delphiniums, and sweet peas. With seasonal interests throughout the garden, RHS Wisley is worth a visit no matter what the time of year. Complete with a restaurant, and several delicious cafes.

3.Polesden Lacey

A visit to this 1,400 acre estate is well worth it when in Surrey. The Honourable Mrs. Ronal Greville remodelled the nineteenth century Regency villa in 1906. It is now complete with her delightful collection of fine art, silver, porcelain, and furniture. Polesden Lacey is one of the National Trust properties in Surrey. Visitors can pick up a souvenir at the gift shop or enjoy the on-site restaurant and farm shop.

4.Thorpe Park

For those of you in search of adventure, take a trip to Thorpe Park, the nation's thrill capital. There are over twenty-five rides and attractions, including the latest SAW- Alive and SAW- Ride, which were built around the horror film.

5.Hot Air Ballooning over Surrey

If twist and turning rollercoaster rides don't boil your blood then try flying high up into the English skies in a hot air balloon. While it does have an element of thrill, hot air ballooning is also a calm and relaxing activity for people wanting to get a real sense of the English countryside. It's a great way to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

6.Denbies Wine Estate

After all of this sightseeing and thrill chasing, I think it is time for a drink! Denbies Wine Estate is England's largest estate vineyard with 265 acres of vines. Moreover, it was the first estate to really educate its visitors on the wine making production process. There is a restaurant inside of a garden conservatory as well as one upstairs the chateau where guests can enjoy the property's spectacular views.

With this many spectacular places to visit in Surrey I am ready to pack the car and go!
