Four Great Reasons to Have MotorBike Insurance

If age equals experience, I am now of the age when I feel old enough to tell people about the shortcomings of my younger years. I am an avid motorcyclist. I have been since the age of 12 when my father first introduced me to a Honda 150cc motorbike. The only deal he made with me was that I had to pay for my own motorbike insurance. As a youngster, that task was more easily said than done and, as a result, I was often left with having to make a decision about going against my father's wish or riding without the proper types of motorbike insurance.

The first reason you need to have motorbike insurance is to protect yourself. Riding a motorbike can be a dangerous act and one that can go wrong at any point in time. I used to ride in the countryside all of the time and I would constantly not be able to react quickly enough to the changing road and terrain. On an average day I would take spills 5 times. Falling off of a moving motorbike 5 times a day is a recipe for disaster. One crash could have cost me quite a bit of money in order to be able to fix my own motorbike. It was money I did not have and money I could not have afforded myself the opportunity to have raised in the short term.

The second reason to have motorbike insurance is the protection of others. As I mentioned above, I would regularly crash my motorbike 5 times in a countryside ride. That almost always meant that I was riding through a fence or crashing into a stationary object. Those objects cost money and money is something that I did not have at that point in my life. I was aware that there was a deductible on the policy of one hundred dollars but I was not that concerned about that because I knew that it would be a much smaller amount than any damage that I might have caused as a result of the crash.

The third reason is simply the affordable cost of motorbike insurance. There are a wide range of options to help make a plan affordable. If you find that the expense of the policy is too high a rider can raise the deductible amount to the point that the expense of the policy is reduced. I was forced t have a high deductible policy when I was younger, which meant that I would have paid up to two hundred and fifty dollar per accident before the insurance would have begun to help out.

The fourth reason is simple peace of mind while enjoying an activity that I loved. I find it amazing that there are people willing to risk everything and to put others in jeopardy of financial ruin by operating any moving vehicle without having proper insurance. Knowing that I had the proper insurance to protect me and anyone around me from that type of disaster made riding the motorbike all the more fun for me and allowed my parents to wish me well as they watched me go out the door each day.
