There are many reasons that indoor sports are so popular in Australia. One of the top benefits of playing sports indoors is that you aren't at the mercy of the weather. If you plan on getting together with your mates to play a game, you don't have to worry about cancelling due to inclement weather. Virtually any sport can be played indoors, but indoor soccer is definitely one of the most popular options. Learn how it works below.

The Basics -

As you're sure to expect, there are many key differences between traditional soccer and indoor version of soccer. However, these differences actually add a new dimension of fun to the festivities, which is why so many people end up preferring the indoor version of the game to the outdoor version. Each style is different enough to be its own separate type of sport, too; sometimes, you just may be in the mood for the indoor version of soccer.

So, what are the key characteristics of a typical game of indoor soccer? Each game consists of four 10-minute-long quarters. Thanks to the netting, there is no out-of-bounds area; for that reason, game-play continues on, uninterrupted, for whole ten-minute stretches. This produces a wonderful opportunity to get a top-notch cardiovascular workout, and makes for a very exciting, fast-paced game. A game is always exhilarating, and everyone is on their feet running around for every last second of it. It's easy to see why so many people get hooked on indoor soccer!

In indoor soccer, teams consist of four players - including keepers. In mixed matches, teams are arranged with two guys and two girls each. Up to three subs can be used in a single game, too, so that's important to keep in mind. No side tackling or tackling from behind is allowed in indoor soccer. The keeper's goal circle cannot be entered by anyone but him. Other players are not allowed to enter the goal circle area. This also increases the challenge of the sport, adding to its fun and excitement.

Give Indoor Soccer a Try Today!

As you can see, indoor soccer is quite a bit different than traditional soccer. However, it is much more exciting in a number of key ways. One thing's for sure: You'll never know if you like indoor soccer unless you give it a whirl. Thanks to its skyrocketing popularity, it's easy to find places to play indoor soccer. Round up a few of your best mates and schedule a rousing round of indoor soccer today. Chances are, you'll all have so much fun that you'll end up doing it again and again. All the while, you'll be enjoying a first-rate workout!
