Even though you may have taken a women's self defense course, you still cannot fill your tool box enough with tips and tools to keep yourself and your children safe. Here are some tips you may have not received in your women's self defense course. As you read through them thinks of how they could apply to specific situations you might find yourself in. It is better to avoid the situation than having to use the physical defense techniques you were taught in your women's self defense course. You will glad you did when you make it through a dangerous experience safely and intact.

Always be prepared for an attack from someone who wants to do physical or sexual harm to you. Carry something in your purse or on your person that will be a deterrent to your attacker. A can of pepper spray or mace is great. It is small and can fit into your pocket or purse easily. If you do not have that available use what ever hard object you can find to stop the attacker. A brush or even your purse makes an excellent weapon. If the man is trying to steal your purse, let him have it. There is nothing in your hand bag that is worth risking your life over.

Be aware of your surroundings. If you are waiting for a bus, stand near other people and never stand alone. Be aware of who is getting on and off the bus. If you think you are being followed, tell the bus driver or get into an occupied building as fast as you can. When you do get off the bus, get off in well lighted areas that are in the publics view. Even if you have to walk an extra block or two, Stay on well lit side walks and choose the side of the street that has more lights on at houses.

If you are riding in a car, before getting in you need to check the backseat to make sure no one is hiding in it. If you are parked in a parking garage, ask the attendant to accompany or at least to monitor your safety on a video camera. Carry the keys in your hand with the ignition key at the ready. You do not want to fumble with your keys if you are getting chased. Women's self defense experts also advice that you do not leave anything of value visible in your car. A potential thief can turn into a potential rapist if he is caught in the act by you. Place the articles in the trunk and lock all the doors on your car. If you make it to the car with no problem and someone trys to get in to attack, sound you horn and scream. All the women's self defense courses in the world cannot help you once if you do not try to get the attention of people who can help you.

Always check your car before getting in - to make sure that no one is hiding inside.
