By : Erik Parsons

Candida yeast infection is characterized by vaginal irritation, inflammation, oral thrush, and abdominal symptoms. When we talk about Candida albicans, it's an organism just like other floras in the body that resides on certain parts such as the mouth, throat, digestive tract, as well as in the vaginal lining of women. Normally it should not cause any problems but when it grows rapidly in large amounts, health problems will then arise. A candida yeast infection diet is recommended to kill of excess yeast and flush the body of toxins.

The immune system usually regulates and control the candida and other normal floras of the body. Once it is compromised, it cannot function effectively. The immune system can be weakened by diseases like cancer, diabetes, or AIDS.

The main food for these yeast is sugar. Knowing that sugar is the main food source of yeast, we can determine that by cutting our sugar intake we can starve off the yeast in our body. As observed in diabetic patients, they usually complain of yeast infections since the concentration of sugar in their blood is relatively high.

What are the foods to avoid?

Foods that must be avoided are those that contain high amount of sugar (carbohydrates), refined sugar, process foods, vegetables high in starch and even fructose from certain sweet fruits. Since we are dealing with yeast infections, we also must avoid eating fermented foods and foods containing yeast. This includes things like bread, beer and vinegar Mushroom and peanuts are also forbidden while on candida yeast diet as well.

Coffee, tea, and carbonated beverages have also been proven to be a food source to yeast. Dairy products like milk and processed cheese are also on the list of foods that must be avoided.

Candida Yeast Diet Recommendation

There are lots of foods in the market that can help your immune system to function, balance the pH in the body, as well as fight the fungus or yeast overgrowth. However, there is one food which is considered dairy that is desirable to eat even on yeast free diet and that is yogurt. Yogurt is known to contain good bacteria identified as the probiotic (e.g. lactobacillus). This is a good snack for people with yeast infections since the good bacteria it contains can help fight the yeast by overpowering them and reducing their growth.

Vegetables are s rich source of fibers that can help in detoxifying your body and control the growth of yeast. Make sure that these vegetables are low in starch like the cabbages, asparagus, lettuce, broccoli, garlic and onions. Experts also recommend taking in grapefruit extract which is an effective anti-yeast fruit removing the toxins it emits. Instead of simple sugars and carbohydrate, stick to complex carbs such as beans and rice.
