Do you stay in one position for too long? Are you in bed most of the time? Or do you have a condition that stops you from moving too much? If you do, then you have a high risk of developing a pressure sore or ulcer.

A pressure sore is an area of the body that is exposed to constant pressure which develops into breakdown or death of body tissue. When this happens, gangrene or intense severe pain is imminent. Therefore, it is best to avoid this from happening. Here are 7 secrets how to avoid pressure sores.

1. Walk more often

Walking is the best way to reduce a pressure ulcer as it increases overall blood circulation to the body. This prevents tissue necrosis or pressure areas from developing.

2. Rub Sorbolene cream around red areas

Whenever you see red areas on the skin, it is best to put sorbolene in that area. This prevents ulcers from developing by hydrating or moisturising the tissue which makes the tissue healthier. Usually, red areas usually develop around the buttocks or sacral areas. Sometimes they can occur on the heel where pressure ulcers can occur.

3. Rest on egg foamed cushions

Egg foam cushion are designed to prevent pressure areas on the body. They help to prevent pressure areas by redistributing pressure evenly, which stops pressure from developing in one specific spot.

4. Turn or move your body every two hours

If you are bed bound and can’t move, then the best way to avoid pressure sores is by constantly turning or moving your body at least twelve times a day or two hourly. This is recommended by several high prestige medical journals to prevent any complications regarding pressure injuries.

5. Keep your body hydrated

If your body is dehydrated, then you have a higher risk of developing a sore. Hence, you should keep your body hydrated to prevent sores. Eight glasses of water every day is the minimum amount of water you should drink to prevent this from happening.

6. Lose weight

The more you lose weight, the less pressure you will put on your body, hence the less risk of getting sores. Also, when you lose weight, you are able to move around much better and more efficient.

7. Massage

Massage helps significantly in reducing pressure sores. Massage helps increase general blood circulation and healing of any damaged tissue. It also provides nutrition to the skin when massaged.
