Choosing a pet is one of the hardest and most important decisions that you will ever do in your life. Once you choose your pet, it will become like family to you. But, if you choose the wrong pet, it can be one of the biggest headache and mistake that you will ever make. Hence, it is important what type of pet you choose. In this case, choosing the right dog for you is a crucial decision. Here are 3 tips how to choose the right dog for you!

1. Do you want your dog to be a guard dog or a friendly dog?

There are two main types of dogs out there. Guard dogs and family friendly dogs or canines. Guard dogs are very protective of their owners and do not like strangers. If you consistently have many friends and family visiting you, your guard dog may attack them. But they can protect you and your property.

Where else, family friendly canines are very hospitable to any strangers. They will come up to them and allow people to pat them. They are generally non-violent and tend to be very happy when strangers are introduces. However, they are useless in guarding your property or your family. If a burglar comes into your house, they will do nothing.

2. How big is your house and back yard?

When considering a dog, certain dogs require a certain amount of space to live in. Generally, larger canines (for example a Labrador) require a large backyard, where else small canines are happy with small living areas. For example, Chihuahuas are very happy to live in and around your lounge room. Rarely do they need a backyard to live in.

So if you got a small backyard, it is best that you get a small dog or canine. But if you got a big backyard, you can have both types of dogs, but a large sized canine is happier to live in it.

3. How big is your pet budget?

Depending on your income, owning a dog can be cheap to very expensive. For instance, a Golden Retriever requires large amounts of food, training, grooming, frequent vet visits and many other issues which may cost you a lot of money. Where else a Chihuahuas are generally inexpensive to maintain and take care of. Food costs are very low, and they may even eat some of your left over food saving you a lot of money. They also require less maintenance which can save you lots of money.

Generally, it is cheaper to maintain a small dog like a Chihuahua. But, if you have money to spare, then you can own larger dogs which generally more expensive to maintain.
