Drinking soda is unhealthy. This alone should be a good enough reason to kick your habit of drinking soda excessively. But if it is not, you should also know that soda drinking can leave a dent on your finances. You may not notice how much you're spending on colas because the amount seems only little. But if you calculate your yearly expenses on this unhealthy beverage, you will be astonished as to how much you are spending on it. If you want to save money and improve your health, here are some frugal alternatives to soda that won't make your pockets weep.

Fresh Fruit Smoothies

If you are like most people, you probably include fresh fruits in your grocery list. When you buy fruits to eat at home, you can turn these healthy food items into exciting drinks by bringing out the blender, some ice, and yogurt. Healthy, cheap and oh-so-yummy, what more can you ask for? So you won't get tired of the same flavors over and over again, you can try blending two or more fruits together. For example, pineapple and orange are yummy together while bananas, apples, and strawberry fit perfectly.

Fruit Juice

Devote an hour a week to create a large bottle filled with your favorite fresh fruit juice and you can put in the refrigerator so that everytime you're thirsting for a cold drink, you can pour some juice into your glass. This is a lot cheaper than going out to the convenience store to buy a soda can.

Milk Shake

When you constantly drink soda, not only are you spending so much money, you also end up missing out on the calcium that milk can bring to you. Milk is one of the best sources of calcium. If you are not a big fan of milk you can turn it into a more delectable drink by pouring it into the blender and turning it into a milkshake. You can also add in chocolate to make it more delicious. Use non-fat milk so that it would be healthier for you. Dark chocolate is also advisable.

Soda Water

If you are not the type who loves drinking water, in fact you think it's boring to drink, you can make things more exciting by adding some fizz into it. To create your own soda water at home, all you need to do is to invest on soda siphon and soda chargers. Aside from soda water, you can also create soda fruit juices. This way, you can control the sugar that you are going to put into the drink and avoid the negative effects of caffeine as well. Not only that, this would also allow you to save a lot of money because you no longer have to buy soda from the stores. Investing on soda chargers and soda siphon may mean spending money upfront but the investment of your money and on your health will be for long-term.

Drinking soda is not only unhealthy but also expensive. Consider the options mentioned above so you can have a healthy drink without having to bust your savings.
