The Press Release is one of the best forms of getting your clients name and information out to the public. Journalist are constantly looking for resources and information that will be of interest to their reading audience. Like all of us, their time is always limited since they have 8 hours to do 10 hours of work! Use the PR to reach out to many writers at once, who in turn will duplicate your release information to their readers.

Setting up a press release is not difficult. The key is to make it interesting with usable content and not a sales letter. Give facts that can be used to create an article of fresh and informative content. Give information that can be expanded into an article. Is you client offering new products, services, or technologies? Even a new website design can be a good topic for a journalist to write about. Make the content newsworthy. Send the release to several people at the local paper for additional exposure.

The press release form should be the same every time. Their is an accepted format that writers have come to expect when reading a press release. Here are the 7 elements each press release should have:

1. Headline - use the headline to grab attention of the journalists and briefly summarize the news.

2. Dateline - contains the release date and the originating city.

3. Introduction - the first paragraph gives basic answers to the questions of who, what, where, when and why.

4. Body - this is where you can be creative. It further explains, give stats, background and other details relevant to the news.

5. Boilerplate - a short description about the company, organization or person that is sending out the press release.Give the journalist reason to believe in the information you are sending.

6. Close - at the end of your boilerplate information, put the symbol ### to show the end of the release.

7. Media Contact Information - This is one of the most important parts of the release. Be sure to include the name, phone number, email address, mailing address, or other contact information for the press release. Be sure to have a contact person to answer questions.

The fact is that paid distribution services will give you a wider selection of distribution partners and added features. One outlet that you must have your press released to is Google news for the most exposure. The more eyes that see your release the better the chance to be picked up and used.

The PR will be used often when there is a change of any kind that can be made into a story that will have an interest to people and drive them to your website. Be sure you have a link to the website and the stores site if that is the purpose of the release. You have the opportunity to create fast and frequent traffic to the website if it is composed and used properly. The best thing to do, it to "just do it."
