Sales of Caroline Shotton prints have made the artist a millionaire, according to reports. The Metro stated that the artist has sold more than five thousand limited edition Caroline Shotton prints, which could make her in excess of three million pounds. Caroline Shotton prints feature cows that have been transported in classic paintings based on works by the likes of Leonardo Da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer and Edvard Munch. Best-selling Caroline Shotton prints include a take on The Mona Lisa titled The Moona Lisa, a version of Girl with the Pearl Earring called Cow with the Pearl Earring and a remake of The Scream named The Moo. Shotton said: "The collection transpired when I was watching a documentary about the Mona Lisa and it made me smile just thinking what the painting would look like if replaced with one of my cows. And then came the puns - The Moona Lisa." Guy Jones, Castle Galleries Manager, said that Caroline Shotton prints are growing in popularity with the general public and a regularly sold out at exhibitions around the country. He said: "With a regular waiting list of fans pre-ordering her work, very often Caroline's pictures don't even make it on to the wall of the gallery. "Given her huge and growing popularity we don't expect them to stay in the gallery for long - as Caroline Shotton is proving a thoroughly modern master." The Fine Art Blog said that art critics may deride the popularity of Caroline Shotton prints but the sales figures reveal that her work is appreciated by the public and collectors. "I believe it is the mixture of her signature endearing cows, humorous titles and all her limited editions being hand-embellished (making them as close as possible to the original) that make her art so unique and collectable with the British public," said the Blog. Shotton's pun titles are not just limited to her Moosterpieces as the Londoner is known for painting cows in satirical scenes such as Have I Got Moos For You, Hoof Hearted and On The Mooove. Caroline Shotton gets inspired by seeing cows on a regular basis as she lives on the outskirts of London where she is within easy reach of farming fields and the open countryside. Cows may have taken over Shotton's life but the artist claims she has no regrets about becoming obsessed with bovines. "I can't stop thinking about them but I love the reaction my work gets," she added.
