Options for Displaying Employee Identification

Over the past decade, companies both large and small have taken to incorporating more stringent security measures for those coming and going from their buildings. The extra security measures are well-planned for the most part, putting to use employee identification badges. There are many companies that utilize a badge system for both identification purposes as well as an entry system in which cards are swiped, giving relevant persons access to those areas in which they work.

It is common to see people wearing ID badge holders either pinned to their clothing or held at the end of a lanyard. Lanyards are ropes or strings that hang around the neck. Sometimes lanyards can be worn around the wrist; but when the purpose is to carry ID badge holders containing identification, wearing the lanyard around the neck is most convenient.

Because of the importance of security in the workplace, it is necessary to ensure that ID badge holders are kept in safe places at all times. It would create problems for an ID badge to slip loose and become lost or fall into the wrong hands. For this reason, when purchasing a lanyard, it is essential to look for one that is strong.

Some lanyards contain a badge reel; which is ideal for the employee who must show identification and also use that identification for access into secure areas. With a badge reel hidden into the end of the lanyard, an individual can easily pull their "key" into place and swipe it. Because of the retractable reel, one does not have to remove their identification for swiping, nor have to bend down to the level of the opening mechanism.

In order to keep in line with the evolving needs of badge-wearing employees, makers of badge reels and ID badge holders have come up with functional pieces that will fit into the different situations an employee may face in their daily activities. First, there is a need in places such as hospitals and public service for a constant display of employee ID badges. To meet this need, the swivel back badge reel has come to be. This badge reel, through the rotating clip mechanism, can be straightened no matter what the angle an ID badge is attached.

Regardless of the type of badge a company chooses to use, carrying it safely is always a priority. Many companies maintain use of a lightweight plastic identification badge, while others have begun to incorporate badges made of metal. These badges are slightly heavier; but can still easily be carried on a badge reel or lanyard.

For the employee, there is no need to stick within the status quo of wearing their identification in a plastic carrying case clipped to their clothing. Today, there are many options when it comes to wearing an ID badge in style. Lanyards now feature sophisticated designs or beadwork, allowing the professional man or woman to look and feel better. Badge reels are now made to feature decorative designs that incorporate style into the professional wardrobe.
