Bedtime Stories For Little Ones in Infant Cribs

It's bedtime, and your little one is tucked away in infant cribs, but there's a problem: baby's not sleepy. As well as bath time, rocking and singing lullabies, reading is a great way to get your baby feeling sleepy and soothed, and ready to nod off into dreamland on their comfy baby cribs bedding.

Some people believe that reading to a newborn is not essential because babies can't understand the story or focus on the illustrations, but in fact, reading to babies in their infant cribs has many benefits. You don't wait to start talking to your baby until you know he or she can understand you, so the same goes for reading. Reading to babies at bedtime allows you to form a special bond with your little one, and the sound of your voice makes your baby feel calm, reassured, and ready to doze off.

Reading aloud also teaches your baby about communication, introduces them to words, pictures, rhythms and colors, and helps build their listening, memory and vocabulary skills. The more stories you read to your little one in their infant cribs, the more words they'll be exposed to. That means, by the time it comes for them to talk and read they'll already have a rich network of words in their brain to draw on and use.

To send your infant to sleep and set the wheels of learning and discovery in motion, just pull out a book and start reading at bedtime. Here are three of our favorite bedtime stories for a good night's sleep in infant cribs:

1."Where Does The Brown Bear Go?" by Nicki Weiss – This wonderfully simple and sweet bedtime story is sure to have your baby nodding off quickly in their infant cribs. In this book, there's a cat, a monkey, a stray dog, a camel, a seagull, and a brown bear, and the text is warm and rhythmic and can be sung like a lullaby. The striking illustrations featuring black skies with bright, twinkling stars are sure to capture your child's imagination.

2."Possum Magic" by Mem Fox – This magical story will transport your little ones, tucked away in their baby cribs bedding, to Australia. In this classic children's book, Grandma Poss uses bush magic to make Hush invisible, but then she can't remember which Australian food is needed to make Hush reappear. Together, they explore great Australian continent, sampling Anzac biscuits, vegemite and Pavlova until they figure the magic food. The full page watercolor illustrations featuring possums, koalas, kangaroos and sugar gliders will entrance little ones.

3."Little Donkey, Close Your Eyes" by Margaret Wise Brown – This is a warm, musical, onomatopoeic story featuring a host of baby creatures, such as monkeys, piglets, lambs, birds, and kittens. The illustrations are rich and conjure up the beauty and enchantment of nighttime through a palette of blues, browns, purples, terracottas, and greens depicting outdoor scenes of lush jungles, corn fields, and pine tree woods. In their infant cribs and baby cribs bedding, your little one will dream of the magic of nature.
