Kosher Supplements and More: Tips on Surviving Flu Season

Fall is on its way, which means we can expect cooler temperatures, pretty leaves, and oh yeah, an increase in people with runny noses and fevers. That's right—flu season is almost here! As the weather gets colder, people tend to stay indoors more, turning our offices and homes into Petri dishes of flu germs. Unfortunately, there's no cure for the common cold or the flu, but if you arm your body with the nutrients it needs to fight off those germs, you'll be a stronger and more fit to fight off that pesky influenza virus this year. Here are a few things you can do to protect yourself:

-Take kosher supplements. Kosher supplements and vitamins are a fantastic way to give your body an extra boost all-year round. Kosher fish oil is extremely good for you, as well as Vitamin C and B12 supplements. Maxi health vitamins are available at many vitamin shops around the country and have a wide-array of different nutritional supplements that are beneficial to take during flu season.

-Eat foods that boost your immune system. It has been said that garlic is a great immune booster, as it increases your body's resistance to infection and stress. To get the nutrients from garlic, crush the cloves with the flat side of a knife to release the juices. Eating plenty of fruit during flu season helps your body stock up on Vitamin C. Zinc, found in many meats is also a great immune booster.

-If you're already sick, you should definitely stock up on fresh ginger root. Ginger root decreases diarrhea and nausea, while working to break fevers. It's also a fantastic way to heal a sore throat. You make ginger tea by grating one ounce of fresh ginger in a pint of water, cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add lemon and honey to taste.

-Chicken soup is also another healer when you're already sick. Soup increases the flow of nasal secretions, and can alleviate a stuffy nose. If there are vegetables in the soup, you're also getting a handy dose of vitamins and zinc!

-Getting plenty of sleep during flu season is also a great way to arm your body against germs this flu season. Also, as much as it is hard to get into an exercise routine during the colder months when all we want to do is curl up on the couch in a blanket, you have to exercise. Exercising keeps your body strong and healthy. Studies have shown that over time, people who exercise catch fewer colds and upper respiratory tract infections.

-When you are sick—stay home! Infecting others just passes the germs around, and who wants that? If you are out, and you're sneezing and coughing, make sure you use a tissue. Remember to sneeze not into your hands, but into the crook of your arm.

All in all, getting sick is a part of life for most of us, but if you want to keep healthy as long as possible, doing any of these tactics, whether it's taking kosher supplements or eating more fruit, you can arm your body with what it needs to fight on this flu season.
