Outdoor Banners and More: How to Make Your Business' Grand Opening Successful

If you're a new small business owner, you've probably spent a significant amount of time making sure every detail is ironed out so your business can really thrive, not only on its first day, but for many years to come. The first day in business is extremely important. It really sets the pace for how the community feels about your company and what your all about. So if you want to really get started on the right foot, have a grand opening event. A grand opening event is a fantastic way to get your community excited about your business by grabbing their attention in a fun, eye-catching way. After all, your business is the new kid in town, so to speak, and if you want to stand out in the crowd and win over some friends, you're going to need to throw a party.

1) The first thing you're going to want to do is the most obvious: set a date. When setting the date, you need to think of what a high-traffic time is. If you're a retail store, a Saturday morning/afternoon is the obvious choice. If you have to do it during the work week, aim for Tuesday to Friday 10am to 12 pm. You're more likely to get media attention and increase guest presence during these time slots.

2) Invite some big-ticket guests. Send out a press-release to any media outlets. Contact your local chamber of commerce officials and other prominent business leaders. If possible, contact the mayor, city council members, and any other important leaders in your community. The more word gets out, the higher chances you have of your grand opening event becoming a hit!

3) Plan the opening. You're going to need to arrange professional vinyl banner printing, and get a ton of customized vinyl banners that you can put up outside, inside, in the parking lot—really anywhere that ca guide people to the event, advertise and let them know that they're in the right place. Outdoor banners on the roadside would also be a good idea, so you can attract drivers passing by, who are otherwise unaware of the event. In addition to arranging a vinyl banner printing service, you're going to need to drum up some refreshments, get a raffle or door prize—an incentive for attending the event. You're also going to need some entertainment. If you have a mascot for your business, have him attend, if you're a family establishment, something like a magic show or face painting could be fun. In addition, you're going to want music to liven things up. If you've contacted any radio stations about the event, ask if they'd like to broadcast from the event. That could give widespread exposure to your grand opening, while providing your attendees with music.

All in all, you should keep in mind that publicity is key. When you tell the public about your business in an advertisement, you're telling them why you're great, and how prospective customers can't live without your business—just like the thousands of other businesses out there. But in order to make your business stand out from the rest, you need to put in a little face time via a memorable grand opening event, fully equipped with outdoor banners, blowing in the wind.
