Portable Steam Humidifiers for Home Usage

Steam humidifiers for home usage do come in a variety of designs and sizes. However, the basic and standard operation remains the same. There are many different reasons why a portable steam humidifier may be the best choice for you to use inside your home. Portable units are always very useful as they can be used in any room in the home and they are easily transported from one location to another.

These types of units are very hygienic. The main reason for that is because the water inside the unit actually boils, it is naturally very effective at killing any bacteria present in the water. Mold and any mineral residues are also cleansed from the steam before it is released into the air. Generally, it is really quite easy for anyone to clean the unit. Many of these equipments have a built in absorption pads that collect any mineral deposits. To clean these units, all that is needed to be accomplished is to change the pad and replace it with a new one. Those other units that do not have this feature are cleaned by adding vinegar to the water; the vinegar will then remove any mineral deposits on the inside of the unit.

All steam humidifiers for home usage work in the same manner. A heating element, set in a small chamber located inside the humidifier heats up water to the boiling point. The steam that is formed is then gently and quietly released into the air where it naturally rises to humidify the surrounding area. A big plus with this type of humidifier is that they are noiseless as there is no need for a fan to propel the steam out into the room.

Occasionally a steam humidifier is needed for medicinal reasons. If someone in your family suffers with asthma or other bronchial or respiratory problem there are units that incorporate a small cup into which medicated inhalants can be placed. These are then released into the air along with the steam.

Prices range anywhere from around $40 to $90 depending on the size of the steam humidifier and the features it has. Some key features to look for when buying steam humidifiers for home usage include being able to vary the mist output and direction, having an automatic shut off feature, the inclusion of a medicine cup if needed, ease of cleaning and being able to easily fill the water tank.
