Do you trip or stumble over something at least twice a day? Have you ever had a fall and hit the ground hard? If you have, then you must have poor balance. Having poor balance increases the chances of injuring yourself. Furthermore, if you have poor balance when you are in your sixties, than it can be fatal if you have a fall. This is because your bones are much more brittle and more prone to serious fractures. Therefore to prevent falls and serious accidents, here are 6 easy ways to improve your balance!

1. Practice skipping for 5 minutes at least once a week

Skipping is one of the best ways to improve your balance. When you skip, you have to jump and regain your balance in a very short amount of time. Hence, if you skip very fast, you have to regain back your balance in a very short amount of time than normal. After practicing skipping for a long time, you will find that your balance will improve significantly.

2. Walk backwards

When you walk backwards, you will find that you cannot rely on your eyes to keep yourself balanced. This will improve your balance because you rely on your footing and centre of balance to to keep you upright.

3. Eat more fruits and vegetables

Eating more fruits and vegetables will help your body feel more balanced internally. This in turn will help your balance physically.

4. Walk in a straight line

If you walk in a straight line like a tight rope, you help to keep your body more upright and in alignment. Gymnast and athletes have used this technique for years to improve their balance.

5. Calf raises

To have very good balance, you must have very good calf muscles. Therefore, you must do many calf raises as much as possible. To do a calf raises exercise; all you need to do is stand with your feet together and raise both of your heels off from the floor. You should feel your calves having a work out.

6. Squats

Squats help to strengthen your quadriceps muscle and your buttock muscle to keep your body aligned and in good balance. Martial artists view squats as one of the best exercise to improve your balance. Squats are quite easy to perform. All you need to do is to keep your back straight at all times with your feet at least a shoulders width apart. Then, you gently bend your knees and ankles down until your knees are bent ninety degrees. Repeat this and you will find that your balance will improve dramatically.
