England still has places such as Much Hoole where people can enjoy a proper English village life while working in a nearby town. Much Hoole is located on the A59 between Preston and Southport and it was in Much Hoole in 1639 that the astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks first observed the Transit of Venus.

Today Much Hoole has a primary school, a village hall, tennis courts, a bowling green, riding stables, an Indian restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a tapas bar. In 2006 a small shopping and business part was developed and there are also quite a few new housing developments being built in the village. The village has two pubs.

Much Hoole is close to Preston which is a vibrant, medium city with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants, museums and galleries. It is also close to Southport which plays host to varied events including a beer festival where one can sample over 70 different types of beer. Southport which lies on the Irish sea coast of North West England, is known also for the Southport Airshow as well as the Southport Flower Show.

The village of Much Hoole has a river to the west of it, the River Douglas, as well as neighbouring villages such as Little Hoole, Longtom, Walmer Bridge and Bretherton. There are the remains of a medieval moat and settlement by the Town Lane. The village retains the village feel for the moment although it has become more developed.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Much Hoole can offer a quality of lifestyle that appeals to those who prefer a village or country life as well as those who would like to access the best of both worlds.

Riding stables in the surrounding areas are plentiful for those who enjoy an equestrian lifestyle. In the village itself, there is the diversity of the smattering of the restaurants and pubs and the choice widens as one travels to the neighbouring villages as well as the towns of Preston and Southport. Much Hoole is a place where one can avoid the rat race of modern living if one so wishes.

If you are considering escaping the stress of city living, this village is a healthy option for those who feel the need to slow right down. It is ideally located close enough to two interesting towns to ensure that urges to soak up city life from time to time can be dealt with easily, then afterwards one can melt back gently into a peaceful existence.
