Bringing back old memories through pictures is a great way of reminiscing the past. But to do that, it is essential to know some basic tips to properly store them. They are as follows: stay away from extreme temperature, choose the right album material, wrap them individually using sandwich bags, frame properly, and reproduce. Photographs reflect old memories. Storing them properly is a good way of keeping precious moments intact in the years to come. However, no matter how much care you exercise, you can't avoid the possibility of seeing them deteriorate. The least that you can do is to prolong its life by following some simple tips such as: Stay away from extreme temperature At all times, photos must be stored in a place where the temperature is not too cold or too warm. These natural elements have tendencies of destroying the images because of the chemical reaction. Avoid storing them in an attic, garage, warehouse, or anywhere with more or less the same weather condition, since humidity is considered as the main culprit for deterioration. Choose the right album material In contrast with any other methods of storing, albums have remained the top choice of many people. The convenience an album brings is incomparable. However, not all albums are made equally or of the same materials. Types available such as magnetic and peel-off are the ones to be avoided since these are made of poor quality plastic and glue. Wrap them individually using sandwich bags Another good way of storing old pictures is to wrap each using a sandwich bag with a zip top. Inflate a little bit so that the surface will not touch the plastic. The space it provides is great enough to allow air to circulate and will prevent moisture formation. Frame properly Putting a photo inside a frame is not always a good idea. This is because some of the materials used such as wood and metals can bring about damage. Thus, if you decide to go for framing, make sure you choose acid-free mats and backboards to prevent the picture from sticking on either side. Reproduce As we all know, wear and tear will always occur through the passage of time. Therefore, it is important to make a copy of your image to ensure that the next generation will still have something to look at. You may opt to scan and save it in a disk so that reproduction is always possible anytime you want. If you want to preserve the quality of your photos, make sure that extra care is given. Avoid using clips, rubber bands, tape and other similar materials if you want to collect your photos by group. Never roll or fold your pictures if you want these pieces of precious paper to last a lifetime.
