PVC Film Is The Wrapping Material Manufacturers Reach For Today

By : Joanne J. Utecht

PVC film is one of the most usable wrapping supplies in use today possessing a number of desirable qualities that manufacturers look for when they are deciding what to wrap and seal their products within. This fine film is currently being used to make all sorts of wrapping and packaging products with names such as supershrink, center-folded, centerfolded, super shrink, center folded, PVC, pvc, P.V.C., polyvinyl chloride, plastic shrink film, soft PVC, single wound and tubing.

Operations that need a material that can handle many different types of demands and products often meet their needs using this versatile film. Before they choose this film though they need to learn a number of things about it to include at least its strengths and weaknesses and what types of products have traditionally been covered by it. This tough, though somewhat pliable, film can be made in the traditional rigid formulation or the newer, more pliable formulation. This range of pliability levels and rigidity mean that the films produced today are able to professionally wrap all sorts of products.

The more widely known traditional, rigid film has been in use for years and years by packagers and manufacturers. This is understandable since this film has been used to great effect by manufacturers packaging products of all sorts all around the world for many, many years. Additionally, this highly reflective, flat and smooth film can be used by those using slowly, medium and fast moving applications.

Since this film does not bleed colors or absorb smells, it has for many years been popular with manufacturers of DVD's, CD's, art materials, frames and candles who were looking for professional ways to wrap and package their products. Also, its simplicity of use also comes from the ability to activate its shrinking and sealing features with just the low heat provided by a hand held heat gun. A final positive to using this film is that it meets the Food and Drug Administration's compliance standards for being in direct touch with food so that it is often used for consumables.

On the other hand, though gaining in popularity, the newer soft film has not been as widely known. Full of micro-perforations, this softer PVC film has a higher resistance to swelling and tearing than the traditional film does. Its softness also means it is ideal for products that need to have strong and complete seals. Finally, this film, like its predecessor, is easy to work with needing only the use of the common and easy to use 110 volt and 220 volt wrapping systems. Finally, it is important to note that anyone looking into using PVC film needs to get the guidance of an expert.
