Let's face it. Many of us cannot live without desserts. Some of us can't even wait to finish the main course just to get to these sweet treats. For other, the dessert is the main course. They skip the entrée and go directly to these pleasurably sweet food.

Eating fabulous desserts have become part and parcel of our daily lives. This is even though we know that too much sugar, refined carbohydrates, and saturated fat (all of which can be found in desserts) can be detrimental to our health. But do you know that it is possible to create healthy but decadent desserts that will still make your mouth water without endangering your wellbeing? It is possible with these smart tips.

Skip the Fat

Fat is needed by the body. But if we consume too much of it or eat the wrong kind, it can result in poor health. Most baked goods today contain hydrogenated fat, which lowers the good cholesterol and increases the bad ones. The good news is there is a substitute to this fat and that is soy or tofu. If you would look around there are many tastier and more appetizing versions of soy ice cream, pudding, frosting, and so many more. Browse the net and you'll find lots of recipes that make use of soy as a main ingredient instead of fat. This will be great for you and your health.

Go Nuts

When creating a dessert at home, you probably put in a lot of toppings like marshmallows, choco chips, and many others. But if you want to do it the healthy way, replace those typical fattening toppings with healthier alternatives such as peanuts, almonds, cashews, walnuts, cereal, oatmeal, puffed rice, and other types of nuts and grains. These toppings are rich in protein and fiber, which can do well for your body.

Opt for Dark Chocolate

Compared to milk or white chocolate, dark ones that are mildly sweetened are the healthier choices. If you are going to pour liquid chocolate into your homemade ice cream parfait or use grated choco bars as toppings for your banana split, go for the dark ones.

Make your own Whipped Cream

Most of the whipped cream you can buy at groceries are made from heavy cream that is loaded with fat. If you want to be healthy, go buy your own cream whipper and cream chargers so you can create your own healthy low-fat whipped cream in the comfort of your own home. Be sure to use light cream instead of heavy cream to cut down on the fat.

Create Fruit Desserts

When it comes to desserts, the healthiest option are still those that make use of fruits as the main ingredient. You can create fruit salad, fruit cocktail, or any other fruit-based dessert and use sauce, salad, or dressing that is low in fat.

Gone were the days when desserts were called sinful pleasures. Now you can indulge in these sweet delicacies without feeling guilty about endangering your health.
