How to Switch to a Smartphone: Cellular Accessories and Other Considerations

With the release of tablet computers and e-readers, you can gather how cellphone accessories and smartphones will replace laptops within just a few years. As technology develops, you will probably have more options than the BlackBerrys and iPhones that rule the market today, but if you don't want to wait, follow these tips.

1.Choose a plan: Perhaps your carrier can offer you a deal when you resign your service contract. AT&T recently made a splash when they switched from a $30 standard fee for data transfers, to two different plan options: a 2gb for $15 extra monthly, and a 5gb for $25 extra monthly.

2.Choose a phone:

-BlackBerry: This is the original smartphone and has been consistently popular since its release in 2002. With its full QWERTY keyboard, you won't have to use anything but your thumbs to type, which has led many to dub the addictive device "CrackBerry." There are also models that don't require keyboards, and instead have a full touch keypad. Blackberry has also achieved prominence with its signature Pearl scrolling device that allows for 4 way scrolling. Although there have been recent privacy investigations into Research in Motion, the BlackBerry developer, this smartphone remains popular worldwide.

-iPhone: Made by Apple and as of 2010 serviced only by AT&T, the iPhone is a more recent addition to the smartphone family: it first appeared in early 2007. With many of the same features as other smartphones, the iPhone is largely successful due to its numerous third party applications. With numerous functions, the iPhone works especially well for games, due to its large screen size.

-Android: This smartphone operating system was developed by Google, and recently has sold remarkably well due to the large scale development of its apps. For other networks, Android is a popular option that connects with Bluetooth wireless headsets and other cellphone accessories. Coded on Java, you can develop your own app for Android thanks to its open architecture.

-HTC Evo: Sprint's most popular phone, it uses the 4G network which allows for faster processing and Internet speeds.

While you will probably switch to a smartphone anyway within a few years, it's important to think about why you want to now. Do you do a lot of business and constantly need to check your email? A BlackBerry is a good choice. Want to use your smartphone for apps and media? iPhone or Android is great too. But if it's just to be cool and impress your friends, you may want to think again – an extra $15 dollars a month adds up. Plus, each phone carries with it a certain image. It is convenient to be able to access the internet whenever you want, and today more phones are used for Internet browsing than to make phone calls (although texting is still supremely popular).
