How to Get Rid of Flies: Disposable Fly Traps and More

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Mark Etinger

There are few things worse than eating breakfast and watching flies buzz in front of your face, landing on your arm, your eggs, or two flies copulating on the edge of your plate. This is the last thing you would want your guests to see, goodness forbid. Follow these tips to rid your home of these filthy, excrement eating insects, and immediately feel better about your abode.

1. Buy a bottle of apple cider vinegar.

2. Fill a few shot glasses with apple cider vinegar and place them in areas that the flies like, and that won't be too visible to visitors.

3. In about 10 minutes the flies will have absorbed the noxious apple cider vinegar and will float in the shot glasses.

4. Empty them into the toilet.

These disposable fly traps are easy and cheap. Here are some other options.

1. Heat hot water on the stove: 2 cups.

2. Stir in 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup of maple syrup, and 1/3 of cup white vinegar. Continue to heat until the liquid is clear.

3. Pour the mixture (over your sink – and do not spill!) into a couple of 8 ounce cups or jars.

4. Stretch plastic wrap over each cup and place a rubber band around it for tension. Poke some holes in the wrap, so the houseflies can crawl through.

5. When the flies become attracted to the sugary syrup, they will crawl into the jars and drown.

If neither of these work, it might be the way you live. Remove your garbage, clean the kitty litter, keep doors and windows closed, cover exposed food, and clean your floors. Odors attract flies, and if you keep access to your home available, the flies will enter without an invitation. They breed in still water, rotting food, and in droppings, so a sanitary lifestyle will help make your home fly free.

If you have bug zappers, make sure that they are sufficiently far away from your home. Exploding fly parts are not good to inhale, or to have anywhere near food. Light traps use UV light to attract flies, so you don't want to place these near windows. Disposable fly traps are also safe to use near your home and food. Another option is to hang clear bags of water around outdoor entrances, which are said to resemble spider webs to a fly, or perhaps disorient them in another way.

And don't overwater your houseplants. Flies and gnats love still water.

Flies are disgusting, and it's not healthy to live with them. Don't settle on having flies in your home, follow these tips and be fly free. While you may see flies occasionally, it isn't nearly as bad as having them in your house and buzzing around you.
