Why Curtains Are Better Than Blinds

Curtains welcome visitors to the home when they are flowing gorgeously in a window from a nice breeze. A curtain will add a natural and softer feel to a home. Blinds make people think of a sterile environment like an office instead of a home environment.

Many reasons make choosing curtains over blinds a better choice. Rooms such as bedrooms will need extra privacy, and the proper blinds or curtains can give the desired privacy. Using quality curtains online that are thick can prevent people seeing into the bedroom as well as the light from outside interfering with late morning sleeps; however, some blinds that are made inadequate for a bedroom will allow the light to show between the slats. Therefore, the choice depends on whether someone wants to keep the morning sun out in order to sleep late or if he or she prefers to let the light peep in, so he or she can rise early with the sun. In addition, insulated drapes can be more energy efficient for a bedroom window covering.

A curtain will be more decorative in a room and give the room a finished look with a warmer feeling. They are also better if someone suffers from allergies. Certain types of window coverings are extremely bad choices for people suffering from asthma or other respiratory problems. For instance, someone who has asthma will not need a mini-blind made from plastic in the room since it will collect dust. Curtain materials that offer a lighter feel to the room are much easier to keep the dust away and are healthier for asthma sufferers. Blinds can be harsher on allergies since they draw dust to them, and they are harder to keep clean than a curtain. Curtains can be taken down and thrown into a washing machine or taken to a cleaning service, but blinds are not as easy to clean. Cleaning a blind is a very time consuming task.

The purpose of the room can also determine which is better, curtains or blinds. A window over the kitchen sink will need more light than a bedroom; therefore, choosing curtains made from lighter or thinner material will give the kitchen some natural light.

Pets or small children can be rough on blinds since the blinds are more prone to damage than a curtain. The aluminum or wood slat blinds can be scratched and broken easily, but curtains can endure more abuse and last longer.

Blinds or curtains will need to enhance the decor of the room. Some homes that have taller ceilings will benefit from heavier drapes, but shorter ceilings might look better with blinds. If a room needs an extra splash of color, then a curtain would be the best choice. The decision to use curtains or blinds will be made according to the function of the room, decor desired or amount of light needed. Whichever blends well in the home and makes someone feel warm and cozy is the best choice for their home.
