Home sweet home - this phrase does not hold true for those basketball lovers whose homes do not have a basketball hoop in the driveway. Now, not every house can have an in-ground pole basketball system which is permanent since it involves digging a hole and a lot more work in terms of installation. Therefore a portable basketball system is an ideal option for such homes. Depending on whether you want to have a basketball system just for fun and some amateur shooting around or whether you need it for serious games, you can pick a portable basketball system which suits your needs the best. A portable basketball system is generally a stand-alone unit which comprises of a pole with adjustable bracket, backboard, base, a rim and a net. Most of the portable basketball systems are made from good materials like polyethylene so as to make them durable, 'weather-proof' and long lasting. When choosing a portable basketball system one should pay attention to the material which is used for the construction of the backboard. Backboards can be made out of fiberglass, tempered glass, aluminum, steel, acrylic or plastic. If you do not want to experience inconsistent rebounds when the ball hits the backboard then don't go for a weak material and instead choose something stronger like steel or aluminum. The trick to purchasing a good backboard lies in the ability to identify the undesirable shapes. A good portable basketball system should have a backboard which is rectangular in shape and as these rectangular backboards allow you to perform shots like bank shots which are tricky. On the other hand if the backboard is shaped like a fan or a semicircle, then many of the shots are rendered ineffective. Also, just like the backboard, the shape of the pole should be square instead of round because it would ensure that there is an improvement in rebounds and decrease in vibration. A unit with a superior adjustment system is also not that necessary because most of the time, people just set these systems to a particular height and leave them as they are for as long as they are using it.
