With the passing of the New Year, many homeowners are taking the opportunity to consider the current look of their home and give it a new look, or a complete overhaul. Many of the modern styles that are commonly being incorporated into homes of late often consist of dark or vibrant colours; futuristic bathroom suites and designer kitchen taps are only a couple of items that the younger generation of homeowners seem to opt for.

New designs are all well and good; modern homeowners wish to showboat their sense of style and eye for interior design and they often do so with stunning results, but that's not to say this style of interior design is for everyone.

Many homeowners feel the appearance of a vintage design has a much more homely and comforting feeling, and it is this which a can now show another side to modern interior design. These older styles, textures and decretive items have certainly been around for some time but still hold a wonderful effect on a room if done properly and in suitable proportions.

With that in mind, let's take a look at a few simple steps you can take to add a vintage edge to your home.

Vintage Accessories

Adding small dashes of classic designs around the home is a great way of incorporating vintage style into a modern home without having to overhaul the house completely. Features such as china sets radiate vintage style and can look great as decorative pieces too! Vases with floral patterns can continue to carry this style through the house and look great with some well picked flowers.

Floral textures can also be applied to bed sheets and curtains; this can have a wonderful effect on your home and really act as a selling point when trying to create that vintage look. If you combine items like this with the previously mentioned accessories then you will soon see quick results that can bring the whole room together.

Classic Furniture

Some of the best things about choosing to have a vintage home are the wonderful pieces of furniture that are available to you; with a little forward planning you can shop for pieces that are sure to add heaps of style to each room of your house.

Classic pieces such as dressing tables and vanity mirrors can go wonderfully in the bedroom, giving you an ideal place to spruce up before a night on the town whilst simultaneously acting as a centrepiece to the rooms design. Older designs in sofas and three piece suites can come with fantastic wooden frames which give that vintage or even antique look.

So there we have it, a few simple ideas that could help to bring a few splashes of vintage design into your home.
