Treatment of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is a disease where cancer cells spread inside the ovaries through tissue, lymph system or the blood. It is a very serious disease. No one should underestimate this kind of illness. But, treatment of ovarian cancer is available may it be through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatment, medications and many more.

Stages of Ovarian Cancer

People should distinguish first the stages of ovarian cancer before having the treatment of ovarian cancer done. These are the following:

Stage I - Cancer cells will be found in one or both ovaries

Stage IA - single ovary

Stage IB - both ovaries

Stage IC - one or both ovaries

Stage II - Cancer cells will be found in one or both ovaries but they have already spreas in the pelvis area

Stage IIA - have already spread in the fallopian tubes and uterus

Stage IIB - have already spread in the pelvis and tissue

StageIIC - have already spread in both fallopian tubes and uterus and tissue and pelvic area

Stage III - Cancer cells will be found in one or both ovaries but they have already spread outside the pelvic are to a woman's tummy and lymph nodes.

Stage IIIA - there is tumor in the pelvis and the cancer cells have already come across the small intestines

Stage IIIB - worse than Stage IIIA

Stage IIIC - the cancer cells have already gone in to the lymph nodes

Stage IV - Camcer cells have gone to the tummy, to the lungs and liver. Almost affective everywhere.

There are three most common ways or techniques or treatment of ovarian cancer:

Surgery

Through surgery, the cancer cells are being removed from one or both of the ovary and to other affected parts of a woman's body. It depends on how many affected parts there are. The more parts affected the harder the surgery will be.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is one of the famous treatment of ovarian cancer. It uses drugs to destroy these cancer cells. These drugs are only prescribed by the physicians and specialists.

Radiation Treatment

Radiation treatment is used in selected instances only. Because of the radiation risks, it might harm the patient. It uses extreme energy from x-rays to kill those cancer cells. This is a very dangerous treatment as well and only given in special cases.
