Students who attend a Spanish immersion school in Chile quickly discover a wide range of enjoyable activities taking place right in Santiago. After all, Santiago is Chile's largest city and, as a result, there are a lot of things that are going on. First of all, there is a great park system in the city.

Obviously, you won't want to miss Santiago's world famous sites like Santa Lucia. The city also has salsa clubs, Irish pubs and various colorful neighborhoods. When most students learn Spanish in Santiago, they may feel as though they could never leave. However, it only makes sense to explore the surrounding areas to get a full taste of what the country has to offer.

One interesting fact about Santiago is that is in an ideal geographical location. It is literally sandwiched between the mountains and the ocean. This means you will be missing out on some amazing natural beauty if you don't take advantage of the surrounding areas.

When you learn Spanish in Santiago, you will likely meet some new friends, so it only makes sense to gather them together for a weekend trip.

Here is a suggestion for a fun-filled weekend close to the city:

On Saturday, plan to go snowboarding. It is easy to get to the ski slopes near Santiago. Simply take the metro to "Escuela Militar" (Las Condes) and walk to the Ski Total ski shop. At this location, you can rent equipment and even clothes.

In other words, it is definitely possible to snowboard even if you didn't bring your equipment with you. Simply catch a shuttle to locations including Portillo, Valle Nevado, and El Colorado. It only takes about an hour to get to the mountains.

The snowboarding in this region is amazing. You will discover that you get quality high altitude snow, which is very similar to what you would get in Colorado. Of course, when you return to the city at night, it is a perfect time to hit the pubs.

On day two of your weekend, make plans to go to the beach. You can simply take the subway to "Pajaritos.' From that point, it is a very comfortable bus ride to Viña del Mar that takes about 90 minutes. The cost for this trip is also very low at about $12 roundtrip. Unless it's a major holiday, there is no need to pre-purchase tickets, as buses leave every 10 minutes.

In Viña del Mar, there is plenty to do. You can walk the beach and enjoy Chile's famous seafood. In fact, both the Sea bass and Salmon from this region are exported worldwide.

Don't miss Chile's famous wine! You can share a bottle with your friends over dinner. Students also find that this easy transportation between Santiago and Viña del Mar makes it possible to return to the city later in the evening.

When you attend Spanish immersion school in Chile, not only will you learn the language quickly, you will also have the chance to explore this amazing country.

The diverse geographic terrain in this region makes it the ideal place for people who love outdoor recreational activities. Don't forget that your trip is certainly about learning, but it should also give you ample exposure to some of the highlights of Latin America.
