Adult care homes have come a long way from a time when people had few choices of how they care for their aging parents. The idea of putting a loved one into a nursing home at one time was considered the normal thing to do. Unless you had the ability to care for your aging parent in your home. Someone in the family would need to move into their parent's home to care for them. Your options for your aging love ones care were somewhat limited. For those who could afford a top quality care facility or a live-in care giver, it would wipe out just about everyone's savings. Generally state ran care homes and nursing facilities were over crowed and under staff. The care that our senior citizens received in allot of these places would quickly drain their reason for living right out of them. Most elderly people in the past as well as now are on a fixed income. The old nursing homes equipment was out dated, and the buildings were cramped. For physical activity if they were able they could go outside by either a walker or a wheelchair to a small court yard if the weather permitted. In many cases an elderly person would spend their remaining days withering away in a small room on a hospital bed.

With new laws governing how care homes and nursing facilities operate our senior citizens have allot more options available to them. There are large, secure communities set up just for senior citizens to live in that have every modern convince. These communities are set up like a small village with everything in a short walking distance from their homes. Many large cities have built senior centers near senior living complexes. Which give the elderly a place where they can socialize in comfort with other seniors. There are state of the art medically equipped assistant living homes for the elderly with medical needs. This includes a twenty four hour a day, seven days a week skilled nursing staff. These assistant living facilities also have a recreational room, sitting room, and a living room setting for all their residents to have access to. Their assigned bedroom is set up like a very nice hotel room, in which they can add some of their own personal decor. Since the modernization of care homes and nursing facilities our elderly now have a better quality of life in their golden years.
