Among all the different breeds of goats, pygmy goats make the best pets. Make sure that you have all the equipment and the facilities that you will need before you even buy your first pygmy goat. However, you need to do a lot of background reading before you get one as a pet. Although they make good companions, having pygmy goats as pets is not for everyone. Taking care of them is definitely different from having a dog or a cat. They have different needs and very different personalities and you should familiarize yourself with them before you even take that first leap. Since they are considered as livestock, you cannot expect your backyard to be enough for them. You need big grounds for them to feed and to live on. You also need to check your town's regulations about his matters, because different places hold varying rules about this situation. When raising Pygmy goats, you should known that these animals are also fans of foliage, specifically fescue, and forbs, specifically dandelion and wild lettuce. They love blackberries and rabbit brushes as well. A well-ventilated barn is a necessity when you learn how to raise pygmy goats as pets. You need to build one sleeping bench for every pygmy goat. You also need to ensure that the barn has a well-built roof that will protect your goats from the heat of the sun and from the rain. Build a fence around the grazing ground to keep the goats from wandering away and to keep the predators out. Keeping goats as pets will only require hay for feeding. You can occasionally give them grains or fruit pulps as rewards. Keep them away from azaleas and rhodendons because they will poison the goats. Of course, they need fresh water all the time so make sure that the barn has a fresh supply of running water. Goats are actually quite friendly animals. They are quite smart, too. Even if you cannot train them to do the usual fetching tricks, you may train them to go to different places on command. However, every goat has its own distinct personality so make sure that you accommodate every single one of them. You should also know that you cannot have just one pygmy type of goat. They are social creatures and they need to be around other goats to survive. So before you raise pygmy goats as pets, make sure that you have enough space and resources to take care of them.
