Determination, dedication and passion - three things that any boat builder would find great use in. However, when it comes to building even the easiest of wooden boats, many are thrown off of the idea of beginning a boat building hobby for one, simple reason - they cannot find a decent wood boat plan. Are you one of these people? If you are, then understand that you're not alone, and by reading this article you can follow the path of those who have read it before you and begin your boat building dreams! A wood boat plan may at first seem an easy thing to come across, surely a quick search on Google will give you the boat building plan you are looking for? Wrong! Although the chances are you will be overcome by a vast quantity of plans that will claim to suit your every need, you will find that they all contain one or more of the following flaws: 1. They are ridiculously overpriced, with no real evidence to support such a high tag. 2. They have very few or even no customer reviews, making it impossible for you to trust the seller. 3. The plan is available, but it isn't specific to your needs. So, what do we do if this is the case? There will be wood boat plan or two available online free of charge, surely they would be useful? Wrong again! Free plans may seem like a blessing, but the chances are phenomenally high that the information within the plan will be practically useless, and the guidelines will be vague to say the least. So, what could be done instead? There is always the option of searching somewhere other than the internet; the library, being the best example. However, libraries have several major drawbacks of their own: • Any wood boat plan that you find in a library will most likely be outdated. • There is a constant hassle of having to renew anything you loan out in a library. • The fact that items from the library are loaned means that you cannot add personal annotations, something that many boat builders find comes in handy. Options are running out. Another prospect is to buy a plan from a professional builder, but the chances are they will charge even more than those you find on the internet. There's one word that can save you here - research. By taking just an extra half-hour or so online when looking for boat plans, you will eventually find your way to the perfect plan. Obviously though, as the saying goes, time is money. That is why I am passing down what I found to you!
