What Is The Best Location To Install Your Solar Panel?

You can only be good at what you're doing if you completely know what you're doing. One of the most important things you should know is that solar panels run on sunlight, so the quantity of electricity a solar panel creates depends on the amount of sunlight that strikes it.

The amount of sun energy that reaches the Earth is different during the day, month or year and it also depends on the meteorological conditions. You have to see how the weather is like in your area and how long the days are, before starting to invest in a solar panel system.

It is also important to know that solar panels provide two or even three times more power during the summer than during the other time of the year. So bear in mind that if you want to invest your time and money into creating your own solar panel, you should work fast so that you're done by May. As an old saying goes: build your cart during the winter and your sledge during the summer. So, make your solar panel during the spring or at the end of the winter and install it just before summer starts.

When you position your solar panel keep in mind to place it somewhere with plenty of sun. Some of the best places to do that are building rooftops, since they are tall, relatively big surfaces. Another option would be the sunniest part of the yard somewhere with no obstacles. Your solar panel has to bathe in the sun at least 7 hours a day (best time is between 9 am and 4 pm.

When you build your solar panel do some calculations. You must know the amount of solar radiation energy expressed in hours of full sunlight per square meter. This is called Peak Sun Hours, and it represents the average amount of sun available per day throughout the whole year. It's estimated that during a single peak sun hour, 1000 W/m² of power reaches the surface of the earth.

You must also keep in mind that if you live in the northern hemisphere, your solar panels need to face south, while in the southern hemisphere they should always face north. You can calculate the precise angle if you know your GPS coordinates of the place you live. Experts recommend that solar panels are to be placed at an angle that is equal to the latitude of the place you install them.

The best places on earth to build such solar panels are big territories in the tropical regions, where days are the longest. The best place in the US to currently build a solar power system based on photovoltaic cells is the South-West part.
