Cloud computing options are becoming more flexible all the time. In the next few years this trend will increase as more possibilities for cloud management come onto the market. Those corporations that have not yet taken advantage of these public hosting options may be tempted to consider the possibilities. There are a number of cloud computing solutions on offer and the prices are within reach of many enterprises including more than just the largest. Even medium and smaller enterprises are beginning to realize that these services can save them the costs of acquiring more computer hardware and employing more IT people. Public hosting can offer options that are flexible enough to enable businesses to pay for what they use and for nothing more. Where a corporation cannot contemplate increasing capital expenditure to add server capacity it can turn to a service provider to ensure that storage capacity is available. Flexibility may be gained at a reasonable price. In those periods when the enterprise needs more server capacity, it may purchase further capacity from the service provider. Where the extra space is not needed the enterprise will not need to incur any costs and this flexibility can lead to greater efficiency. As the services on the cloud are available all round the clock there is more flexibility for businesses taking advantage of this possibility. Employees of the client corporation may continue their work at all times without any possibility of being unable to access files. In future the range and scope of the options open to enterprises is likely to increase further. More services will be available and greater flexibility will be introduced as the intercloud takes shape. The idea behind the intercloud is that the clouds associated with different service providers can gain the ability to communicate between themselves. This means that corporations will not be tied to a single service provider for all their software services and they will have the flexibility to change providers more frequently by transferring data from one cloud to the next. Clouds operated by different service providers will be able to communicate and data could be transferred between them. An enterprise will not be tied to a single service provider but will have the ability to engage different service providers for different services and still ensure that the data is integrated and accessible at all times. Service providers will therefore need to ensure that each element in the package they offer is priced competitively and that the services offered are as efficient as possible. Customers can chose between different providers for each function and will be able to switch in real time from one provider to another that offers a more efficient solution. One possible consequence is that far more corporations will want to obtain services from the cloud and the size of the market will increase. Another consequence is that there will be more pressure on service providers to increase efficiency and distinguish themselves from competitors. The consequence will be good for business that will have more flexibility in cloud management and have access to more efficient services at a lower cost.
