It is so much more comfortable, and efficient, to install furniture and other equipment then move into a building that is clean, well ordered and ready to use. There should be no stray nails, paint splashes, dust, sawdust, smeared windows, loose fittings or any other issues if a professional cleaning company has been the last contractor on site and done a thorough inspection and deep clean. Their experience of how building contracts can overrun or reveal last-minute problems means that most specialist after-build cleaning contractors have the flexibility and resources to allow them to turn up at short notice or accommodate last-minute changes. They should be able to demonstrate that they take Health and Safety very seriously and their standard practise should include a proper risk assessment at the site and a proper statement of the cleaning methods to be used. It is important foir the cleaning company to have a meeting with the company's project manager to gather information about special materials used and what products and materials can be used for cleaning them without damage. Construction cleaning technicians will then be able to arrive on site fully equipped with the best equipment, all safety clothing and materials for the work. If chemicals are involved in the cleaning process cleaning staff should have received COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) training in the use and handling of the cleaning chemicals and fluids which may need to be used. The attention to detail they apply will give them information to supply a full report of all the work they have done as part of the clean-up and can also highlight anything that needs attention by the builders. It's possible that the cleaning company may also offer induction, retraining and regular H & S audits for the staff who will be using, maintaining and cleaning the building once it has been handed back to its owners. A specialist after-build clean may be an extra cost but it's an investment that could be particularly important for peace of mind in public buildings like hospitals and schools. However, it is a useful extra step for any commercial space that will have to accommodate large numbers of people, both employees and visiting clients or members of the public. It cuts down the amount of time needed for moving in and also allows for the peoople who are to use it to get gong quickly and efficiently, which is an important consideration for any organisation that people depend on to supply essential services. It can be good for staff morale too to move into an already clean and fully-functional building if, after a period of disruption during renovation, they find all is in working order with no risk of damaging clothes or possessions.
