Designer watches, for many of us they are a major purchase not far below a new car or our first house. They are without a doubt a high end luxury item especially when they have some of the gigantic brand names that we expect so much from attached to them. There are several factors that go into defining the value of these watches. For one thing there is a wealth of easily definable value in the often precious metals that are used in designer watches. Less tangible of course is the value of a brand name. From Audemars Piguet to Patek Philippe, each of these names carry with them a wealth of history and a sense of implied value that can easily trump the value of whatever quantity of gold or diamonds went into making a luxury watch. Still in many ways the biggest sense of value of the biggest brands of watches is in the craftsmanship you can be sure each item took to be constructed and put on the market. The handmade charm of a beautiful watch is undeniable and it is the thing that keeps even the wealthiest among us not simply replacing these beautiful watches but bringing them to specialty repair people. This is because when you buy a designer watch from one of the well known brand names that people have affection for you want it to last you forever. People who are hardcore watch enthusiasts are often buried with their favorite Hublot watches or their most prized A Lange and Sohne watch. The permanence suggested by these designer watches are practically unmatched in the world of luxury items. Cars are replaced, homes are upgraded, luxury watch purchases are forever. That may seem dramatic but it is true. These watches are not purchased with any sense of them being disposable. People pass these brands of watches down for generations through their families. Watch repair people too hand their businesses down through the ranks building and training their staffs to last for a long time. It is the way that the watch business keeps thriving even as people move more and more towards digital time keeping on their cellphone or their computer desktop. Intricate design details and brand name clout are nothing to sneeze at. Even as time itself is measured in different ways these watches and their reliable tick tock survive. This is to keep people in touch with what it means to truly build something beautiful and intricate.
