While individuals can undertake concrete cutting on their own, doing so would be ill-advised. There are many factors that must be taken into consideration that most individuals unfamiliar with concrete cutting may not consider. Concrete cutting may seem like a simple endeavour, but this task requires experience, expertise, proper planning, and the right equipment. Hiring a professional for one's concrete cutting needs is recommended because professionals will know how to avoid damaging thing such as pipes or wires that may be embedded in the concrete. Knowing the size and weight of the concrete to be cut will be important so it can be handled and disposed of properly. Reputable companies with expertise in concrete cutting will also have the professional grade equipment needed to make clean, smooth cuts without causing any structural damage.

Types of Concrete Cutting:

Concrete cutting is the process by which concrete is drilled, sawed, or removed using special tools with diamond blades. There are three main types of concrete cutting: core drilling, wall sawing, and slab sawing.

Core Drilling:

Core drilling occurs when round holes are drilled in concrete floors, walls, or other types of concrete structures. There are a number of applications where core drilling may be necessary. These applications include: electrical wiring installation, plumbing installation, venting furnaces, installing sprinkler systems, fibre optics installation, installation of phone lines and computer lines, manhole taps, water lines, sewer lines, and underground vault taps. The equipment used for core drilling can be operated vertically or horizontally. After drilling, a cylindrical slug of concrete will be removed from the hole, hence the term core drilling. Core drilling may be necessary for demolition projects.

Wall Sawing:

Concrete wall sawing is utilized when individuals need to cut openings in a concrete structure for things such as doors or windows. Wall sawing may also be utilized when an opening needs to be cut in a concrete foundation, when the elevation of a foundation needs to be lowered, or when a foundation needs to be removed. There are several scenarios in which wall sawing may be utilized.

Slab Sawing:

Slab sawing is commonly referred to as flat sawing. Flat, horizontal concrete surfaces may be cut using slab sawing. This method may be utilized to make openings in concrete floors to access broken water pipes or sewer lines. Individuals may need professional slab sawing services when remodelling or adding a bathroom in a basement.

Each of the various types of concrete cutting methods can be useful in a variety of situations. Even though individuals can undertake concrete cutting on their own, contacting a professional for one's concrete cutting needs is always the best plan of action.
