Thinking about kids? While you may know that children are expensive, you may forget just what you need for the first few years. Financial comfort is important if you're thinking about having children, and if you don't believe me, here are some of the expenses that you will have to pay for your baby.
1. Baby carriages strollers: You will need something to carry your baby in, whether you decide on strollers, prams, papooses, whatever; the poor darling can't just sit in your arms all the time.
2. Sleep, my pretty: Baby cribs bedding is necessary. A cradle, bassinet, or any other form of infant cribs is a great choice. You don't want any more than 2 ½ inches between the slats of your crib though, or else baby could slip out. For the baby cribs bedding itself, you will need a quilted mattress pad, 2 crib sheets (smaller sizes are sold depending on your bedding) 2-4 waterproof sheets or pads, 2 light blankets. Sheet savers are a good way to easily change the bed when accidents occur.
3. Chair booster seat: Your baby needs a booster chair if she's going to be eating with you. This is for the period after infancy, so you may wait to buy it.
4. Dresser: You will need to store the baby's clothing in a dresser, and on top of it you can change the baby. When doing so, place a pad underneath her and never take your hand off the baby if your changing area is high since babies like to roll around.
5. Playpens for babies: Playpens are a great way to leave baby unattended for a few minutes. They can crawl and stand, play with toys and learn independence, albeit slowly.
6. Diapers: Usually you will use about 50 per week, or about 7 daily, but during the first week you may use about 9 a day. You will need diaper wipes, diaper rash cream, petroleum jelly, and a diaper pail, to throw away dirty diapers.
7. Clothes: You will need 3 onesies, or undershirts, for the first three months, and three for the next three months, 3 infant gowns for easy diaper changes; 3 sleepers for infant size baby and 3 for six month sized baby, 3 pairs of booties or socks, 3 blankets, and 1 blanket to cover the swaddled baby when she sleeps.
8. Bathing: A baby bathtub along with 4 towels and washcloths are important. Baby shampoo that won't burn eyes, baby soap, brush and comb are also necessary.
9. Eating: 12 nipples and covers, 1 bottle and nipple brush, infant formula and measuring cup if you aren't breastfeeding, 12 burp cloths, 6 bibs, and 12 bottles for when you release your milk and baby's not hungry.
These are just the essentials. You may also want a mobile for the baby's crib, toys, diaper bags, a car seat, breast pump, thermometer, night lights and tons of other baby essentials.
