Cutting Costs on Family Vacations

Summer is definitely here and if you've been thinking of a family get away but have some financial concerns, here are a few tips that could help save enough money to make that holiday wish come true.

The first thing you should invest in is time on the Internet. If you have a destination in mind, it's always a good idea to look for package deals. They usually offer a discount for a group or family and can prove to be invaluable. More times than not, purchasing your accommodations, airfare, and car rental as package deals are worth the time and are usually 30 per cent cheaper than paying on an individual basis.

When you reach your destination, taking the airport shuttle is much cheaper than using a rental company or taking a taxi. If you have decided to stay at a hotel, chose one that offers free shuttle service.

One of the more expensive parts to a family vacation is the entrance passes. If you are heading to a place that requires entrance fees, take a look online to see if they offer discounts for certain days of the week or a discount for purchasing online. There are often deals to be found by buying multi-day passes as well. If you're planning on returning within the year, you may want to consider buying an annual pass.

Many places offer a booklet of information when you arrive. If you take the time to go through it, you will no doubt find a great deal of coupons and discounts for everything from local attractions to restaurants and souvenirs. When it comes to souvenirs, it's a good idea to set a limit. If possible, wait until the end of your trip when you've had time to shop around and get a feel for prices. Some of the best souvenirs are free so don't forget to consider shells from the beach.

If you're staying in one place for a long period of time, you may want to consider renting a condo or a villa instead of a hotel. The cost for a hotel for one week could equal the cost to rent a condo for two weeks. There are also many companies that offer house swapping, which means you would get your accommodations for free.

One of the worst ways to blow money is to buy your essentials when you get there. Purchasing things like toothbrushes and sunscreen from the hotel's front desk will see you pay ten times the amount of what it's really worth. Take your time in planning your trip by making a list of what you will need and checking it twice. Taking care by planning ahead of time can really add up to a large amount of savings on your summer holidays Summer is definitely here and if you've been thinking of a family get away but have some financial concerns, here are a few tips that could help save enough money to make that holiday wish come true.
