With all the doomsday fears, are there any good Mayan Predictions for 2012? Did the ancient Mayans know something that we don't and is the world going to come to an end? Well there really are no simple answers. It is true that the Mayan calendar will end on 12/12/2012, and it predicts that there may be a global catastrophe then, but what it is and how bad it may be just isn't there. Sure there is going to be a celestial alignment, but how many of these have we had since the beginning of human kind and earlier? Planetary changes are going to happen, whether you go by the Mayan Calendar or not. They are supposed to do this every 60,000 years or so, and we haven't seen one since end of the last ice age, more than twice that. We are already seeing some of these changes, with the increasing number of earthquakes in places where you wouldn't think, more volcanoes erupting, and other signs of climate change. While there may not be any specifically good Mayan predictions for 2012, does that mean we should be preparing for the end of the world? No, it doesn't. Sure there is a lot of hype out there about all the different worse case scenarios that could happen, but many of these were also predicted for the new millennium as well. Sometimes it makes one think that a lot of these are spurred on by Christian belief systems. It does seem like every time the Church feels that their followers are dwindling that they come up with some new time line for Armageddon, to help bring people back to the fold. The problem is that every time this deadline passes, their followers believe in them even less. It is very similar to the boy who cried wolf stories you were told as a child. Does mean there are no good Mayan predictions for 2012? One of the things you can take away from these predictions is that there will indeed be some kinds of changes occurring, and that their calendar will come to end. However, if you believe in life as a cycle, then you shouldn't be that alarmed, there is no end because it is just a start of a new beginning cycle. It is just like the yearly calendar, and ancient beliefs of the Celtic Druids. There can't be a beginning of something without the end of something else. We have winter to kill off all the seasonal plants, but it is a new beginning, so that when it gets warmer, new plants can grow in their place. What does all of these predictions mean for you and me and the average person? Should we start stocking up on food and water, hide in the hills or some underground bunker just before December of 2012? No, let those people who are freaking out about it do so on their own. The thing is that if you really are that worried about it, what can you do? Not much. So instead of freaking out, do something you should be doing anyway. Be closer to the ones you love, and not take them for granted. Make them a priority, rather than work.
