3 Simple Ways To Improve Your Home

Everyone in life likes to get something for nothing, yet very few people like to give something away for free, whether it be a fabric shade or a suitcase of money. This is how to overcome that supply and demand problem.

Although hardly anybody will give you something without expecting something in return for it, if you want something for free you might want to look somewhere else. We're not talking about rooting around in bins or rubbish tips either, but instead having a look round your house. Many of us have plenty of things that we rarely use or that clutter up our living space, you can often convert these items into something useful.

1. A Bookshelf Out of Bricks and Planks

Bookshelves aren't cheap items, and yet they can add a lot of character and value to a room. Instead of spending hundreds, or possibly thousands, of pounds in a furniture store it is possible to create funky alternatives out of everyday items.

You'll need about six bricks and a plank for every shelf you are planning on needing, depending on the height of the books. Place half the bricks at one end of the plank and the other half at the other end and then put another plank on top of them. Repeat for as many shelves as you want and before you know you'll be placing your books on the shelves and voila - you have some bookshelves. This technique can also be used to store DVDs or CDs.

2. A Coffee Table Out of Cardboard Boxes

Coffee tables are expensive items too, but are very handy for when you like to slouch in front of the television, either to rest your feet on or a nice mug of tea. Almost every household has a store of cardboard boxes somewhere that nobody uses and these can be taken advantage of to create your own coffee table.

You may want to decorate your boxes with paint, or indeed cover them with wrapping paper or even wallpaper to make them appear a little more classy and a little less like you are living in a human aid zone, and this can also be a lot of fun.

3. A Fabric Awning

Got an ugly ceiling? No problem. Simply hang a piece of beautiful fabric from your ceiling, attaching it at each corner so that not too much of it hangs down. It will give your room a completely different perspective and can really make it pretty.

As you can see these are just a couple of ways you can save yourself a lot of money by using your imagination and creating decent pieces of furniture from things you aren't really using. Have a look around your house and think how you could make best use of what you have.
